A Taste for Reading at Central School’s Book Bistro

Chef hats, menus and books filled fifth-grade classrooms at Warren’s Central School on September 18 as students sat down for a different kind of tasting.

The “Book Tasting” transformed classrooms into restaurants, where students sampled stories instead of food. They explored book covers, summaries and opening pages, then discussed genres and shared recommendations with classmates.

The literary menu included realistic fiction, fantasy and science fiction, mystery and adventure, historical fiction, and nonfiction. Each selection gave students a chance to try something beyond their usual reading choices and discover a potential new favorite.

Teachers joined the fun with chef hats, aprons and background music, bringing the restaurant theme to life. Along the way, students practiced explaining their opinions and listening to one another’s ideas.

With lively conversations and plenty of books to explore, the event offered a playful way to build a love of reading. Teachers hope to make it an annual tradition.
