The new installation was celebrated with school and community representatives, including School Business Administrator Chris Heagele, Principal Jeff Heaney, Committeeman Dan McCarey, Board of Education President Patricia Zohn and Superintendent Dr. Matthew Mingle. Woodland’s mascot, Woody Woodchuck, also joined the opening.
School officials said the project was made possible through long-range capital-improvement planning, state grant funding and support from the Woodland PTO. The Board of Education approved the playground-equipment replacement purchase earlier this year through Kompan Inc., with the Woodland School portion listed at $368,036.73 in district records.
The opening gives Woodland students a renewed place to gather outside during the school day. For elementary schools, a playground is more than a piece of equipment: it is a shared space where children can be active, practice social skills, take a break from the classroom and build routines with classmates.
The work is part of the Warren Township School District’s continuing facilities planning. Voters approved a school-improvements proposal in March 2025, and district records identify playground replacements among the projects planned across its schools. The new Woodland playground is now ready for the generations of students who will use it at recess and during outdoor activities.
